The last photo I took in October was of this gas holder out by Cambridge Heath. When I look at it, it reminds me that finally, after three and a half years here, London feels like home. It's been so different, settling in here, compared to settling in in Geneva or even New York. Geneva never felt like home, ever. It was too soulless for me, it held no magic. New York, on the other hand, felt like home from day one and the magic was everywhere, on every corner, in each late night subway ride, each $1 pizza slice, and all the kisses in the pouring rain. But London... It took me a little longer to get used to London. Partly because for the first two years I was a freelancer with little money and even less time. Partly because London can be quite formal, holding you at an arm's length until it trusts you fully and embraces you warmly. But this year it has finally opened itself up to me and the wonders within are infinite.

The artwork is nostalgic – who didn’t place a Slinky on the stairs as a child? – while being surrealistic. The proportions are reversed and it feels like you have shrunk and have ended up in Alice’s Wonderland. The porter’s house has become a step and the street and the surrounding buildings a playground. Art doesn’t have to be exhibited in a museum or in a gallery to be meaningful, a thought that became popular amongst artists in the 1960s.
